Fox News - Glenn Beck - Yellow Journalism
Let's dust off this oldie but a goodie, and bring today's right-wing wacko media up to date. It's characterized by the endless drive to boost, in today's terms, viewers, listeners and print media readers using sensationalism, distorted facts and stories, and biased opinion masquerading as objective fact.
Historians generally believe it started after William Randolph Hearst bought the New York Journal in 1895 and engaged the New York World, owned by Joseph Pulitzer, in a battle for readership superiority. The history is much to long for this space, a fair representation of their competition can be found at PBS.org.
The term, "Yellow Journalism" reportedly grew from a popular comic in the New York World called "Hogan's Alley," which featured a character dressed in yellow named the "yellow kid". Not to be outdone, Hearst hired the cartoonist, Robert Outcault away from the World and created his own "yellow kid" cartoon, and the term was apparently born at that time, see above.
Ok, so now it's time to visit one of today's more obvious Yellow Journalism entities, Fox News and it's current poster boy, Glenn Beck, master of cheap melodrama. Oh, before going to the podcast, I may have figured out what drives Beck, his sinister, inner secret. That will be unveiled at the end of the podcast. Ok, here we go...

That ranting, screaming segment when he was "interviewing" the lady on the phone was like listening to a violent denizen of an asylum - Reallly! I think that man must be actually mentally unbalanced, and possibly a threat!
